Seemingly, it's the console's lineup of titles that's keeping it in the battle

I suppose an hour of living with the thought of a cheaper Xbox 360 by Christmas was enough. Prepare yourselves for the total dismissal of such happenings, as if a cheaper 360 by the winter holidays was a short time to wait... David Hufford, Director of Xbox Product Management immediately denied the 360's status as a console in need of attracting other communities and requiring a price reduction. Read below:

"Some are getting really spun up about the Bloomberg story and inaccurately reading tea leaves that don't exist," says David Hufford. "I spoke to Bloomberg nearly two months ago and we were talking about NPD data that had just been released, and chatting generally about price points of consoles in the market. The comment, which is accurately reported, unfortunately has now been taken way out of context and being reported as if I am signaling a price drop. I was not, I am not.

With Xbox 360s selling well at their current price point, Elites selling out at $479, and an insanely great portfolio of games in the market, there's no reason to announce any kind of price drop anytime soon," Gamerscore posts.

Just as I said to myself, with such an impressive lineup of titles, the 360 has no chance to miss. Plus, Halo 3, the Xbox 360's insurance policy, is due for a September 25 release, marking somewhat of another launch for Microsoft's next generation piece of hardware. Everyone's satisfied even with the Core SKU, sporting a limited 20GB of storage space, so you can only imagine how the Premium and the Elite SKUs are doing.

But... there's always a but, isn't there? Just as soon as Halo 3 launches, it would make sense for Microsoft to trim the 360's price just a little bit. Although Halo 3 will sell a lot of units to those picking up on the series with this third installment ending the Halo trilogy, all interest in the console will be lost after that, given that not everyone's into first-person shooters. That is if another developer or Microsoft itself doesn't come up with another insurance policy game for the Xbox 360...
