Grand Theft Auto has been making the headlines lately with a British tabloid claiming, falsely, that the developers at Rockstar were getting ready to exploit the Rothbury incidents that happened earlier in the year as material for a new game in the Brand Theft Auto series. But a rumors with most substance has also been making the rounds, with at least two sources now claiming that the next GTA title will be moving to Hollywood when it comes to location.

The information initially appeared on VG247, with a source cited as saying that the location could be confirmed at an event which is officially set to deal with Max Payne 3, another project the studio is engaged in. And an insider quoted by Eurogamer has added that Rockstar is actually doing research on the ground in and around Hollywood in order to recreate some sections of the city. When contacted for a reaction Rockstar has stated that it has a policy of not offering any comment on “rumour or speculation”. Given the track record of the video games industry when it comes to denials this could almost be taken as a sort of acknowledgment from the creators of Grand Theft Auto.

GTA IV was one of the biggest hits of the last few years, lagging only behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 when it comes to how fast it managed to sell copies. The game managed to sell more than 17 million copies all over the world, helped in part by two significant downloadable content packages that arrived about six months apart.

The game creators at Rockstar managed to create an interesting atmosphere with the recreation of New York that was Liberty City in their most recent title and their passion for commenting on American culture lends more substance to the idea that a recreation of Hollywood will serve as the playground for the player in the next GTA.
