L.A. Noire, the mystery thriller that is being created by Team Bondi (for quite some time now) and set to be published by Rockstar, has been confirmed as being in development for the Xbox 360 home gaming console from Microsoft, as well as for the PlayStation 3 from Sony, which it was initially announced for.

The game is set to re-create the entire atmosphere of 1947 Los Angeles while tasking the player with solving, as they see fit, a variety of murders that might point to something more sinister.

The confirmation of the multiplatform aspect of L.A. Noire was made by the Game Informer Magazine for March, which also takes an extended look at the ambitious project that aims to combine complex open world mechanics set in a city faithful to its history with a more intellectual challenge of solving the murders.

Initial news related to the existence of L.A. Noire appeared in 2004, when Team Bondi talked about the game being funded by Sony Computer Entertainment of America, which indicated a PlayStation 3 exclusivity. Since then, the team closed a deal with Rockstar Games and with Take Two, and some comments referred to the videogame as coming to “next generation consoles,” without talking about the Xbox 360 specifically.

Take Two has been moving away from platform exclusives in the last few years, with Grand Theft Auto itself making the move to the PlayStation 3 with the fourth full installment. Third-party publishers are more interested in bringing their titles to as many platforms as possible because it means more money for them as long as the various console parts are well put together.

L.A. Noire has been delayed every year since it was unveiled and it currently has no clear release date although the recent platform announcement might mean that we will see it out in late 2010 or in early 2011.
