South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is set to announce a new smartphone running under Google's Android operating system at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week, namely the successor of Galaxy S, which might get launched as Galaxy S 2, and which allegedly emerged on a retailer's website priced at £549.95, SIM free.

The said handset, listed at mobilefun.co.uk (via EuroDroid) as Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100, is expected to prove the high-end smartphone that Samsung might announce officially as the successor of their popular Galaxy S device.

The handset features an expected release date of March 4th, 2011, though we should note that the image listed on the site does not seem at all as being anything near what the phone might actually look like, as it resembles a lot Apple's iPhone 4 device.

According to the retailer, the specifications list of this device would include: Powerful dual-core 1.2GHz Samsung Orion processor Ultra sharp 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 Next-generation Bluetooth 3.0 NFC technology for contactless payments and more 1GB RAM lets you multitask with ease Comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread 8MP camera with LED flash and 1080p video recording with 1.3MP front-facing camera for video calls

These specs are in line with what we've heard before on the smartphone, and changes are that it might all pan out in the end, even if an official confirmation on the matter won't emerged until a few days, when Samsung plans on making the phone official at MWC 2011 in Barcelona.

“This SIM free handset is unlocked and compatible with any 2G/GSM or 3G SIM card,” mobilefun.co.uk notes.

Of course, there is no telling on whether Samsung would indeed have the new device on shelves in less than a month from now, or whether the price tag the new Galaxy S 2 would sport when available would be the one listed today, so we'll take these details with a grain of salt for the time being.
