Developers have added the programmers needed to create it

The United Kingdom based PlayStation 3 Magazine has reported that the next God of War IV video game, which will be announced shortly in an official manner and will be launched during 2012, will have an online cooperative mode that will allow two gamers to battle enemies together as Kratos and his now dead brother Deimos.

The magazine states: “It’s bringing double Kratos to the series. GOW4 was confirmed to PSM3 mid-2011 by a reliable source, and rumours point to a multiplayer twist. Mad idea? Online co-op with a (possibly) dead Kratos and (very) dead brother Deimos teaming up to escape the afterlife.”

The magazine does not make it clear how its anonymous source has managed to get access to such sensitive information inside Sony or the Santa Monica studio.

Some support for the online cooperative game mode rumors can be found in the fact that almost one full year ago Sony posted a job opening for a senior online programmer that would work with the God of War IV team, although it’s not clear if a new game mode was to be his responsibility.

God of War has been silent as a series since the March 2010 PlayStation 3 exclusive launch of the third full game in the series, which has seen Kratos take out pretty much all that was left of the classical Pantheon.

Since then the series got another spin-off, called Ghost of Sparta, on the PlayStation Portable, with the development duties handled by Ready at Dawn.

Sony sees God of War as one of the key properties for the PlayStation line of devices and it will likely use a full new release in the series as a good way of promoting the PlayStatiokn Vita during 2012 or might even hold back such a game in order to generate more interest in its next home console.
