A new job ad from the Sony Santa Monica studio seems to indicate that the development team there is done with its work on God of War and is now working on a completely new game universe which will use the open world structure.

It seems that the Santa Monica studio is looking a senior level designer who will be working on a new and yet unannounced intellectual property, as indicated by a job listing on the Gamasutra website.

The job advertisement also says that “Experience in designing or contributing to the development of an “open world” game is a plus”, which might mean that the Santa Monica studio is either moving away from the God of War franchise or trying to use a whole new template for the next one in the series.

It's hard to speculate based on just one job announcement but nothing new has been announced by the Santa Monica based studio of Sony since it has launched God of War 3 during 2010.

The game has been very successful on the PlayStation 3 home gaming console from Sony and has managed to make the long running series relevant on current gen devices, which are also currently receiving High Definition remakes of the older titles.

John Hight, who is the studio director at Santa Monica, has stated after God of War 3 was launched that this was certainly the end of the trilogy but that the universe of the game can accommodate other adventures.

It's not clear whether Kratos, the angry Spartan warrior that likes to decimate the ranks of the Olympian Gods, will again star in a God of War game or whether the creators of the series will use a whole new character.

At certain points there have been rumors about a God of War movie and a novel was launched during 2010.
