Motorola has just made official a new handset running under Google's Android operating system, the Motorola DEFY with MOTOBLUR, which is expected to become available for purchase in Europe, it seems.

The new mobile phone comes with a rugged design, being dust-, scratch-, impact-, and water-resistant, while still boasting a 3.7-inch touchscreen display and enhanced smartphone capabilities.

Running under Google's Android 2.1 operating system, the new device also comes with MOTOBLUR 1.5 on board, and with support for a wide range of services from Google.

The specifications list of this device includes a Corning Gorilla Glass display that can deliver a 480 x 854 pixel resolution, and which is resistant against bumps and scratches.

The mobile phone comes with a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, auto focus and video recording capabilities, while being powered by a OMAP 3610 chip running at 800MHz.

On the connectivity side, we can count Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, along with USB 2.0 (High Speed 480 Mbps max), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and a 3.5 mm headset jack.

The device comes with support for WCDMA 900/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps (Category 7/8), EDGE Class 12, GPRS Class 12, HSUPA 2.0 Mbps connectivity.

The Motorola DEFY also sports aGPS (assisted) with Google Maps, Google Maps Navigation (BETA), and eCompass.

The Android Media Player is present into the mix too, as well as FM Radio and support for H.264, AMR WB, WMA9, AAC, MPEG-4, MP3, eAAC+ , AAC+ formats and video streaming.

DEFY was packed with 1.25GB of internal memory, complemented by a MicroSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Measuring 59 x 107 x 13.4 mm and weighing in at 118 grams, the new handset sports a 1540 mAh battery that can boast up to 400 minutes of talk time or up to 400 hours of standby time.

The handset comes with Google services like Google Search by Voice, YouTube, Google Maps Navigation and more, as well as with support for applications from the Android Market.

According to Motorola, it packs “support for Corporate calendar, email and contacts (Exchange 2003 and 2007), Google contacts, calendar and Gmail, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Photobucket, Picasa, Last.FM and Yahoo Mail contacts.”
