There are plenty of software applications designed to record or take screenshots of a computer's desktop, but up until now, console gamers weren't that lucky.

However, the people over at Rovi Corporation have decided to lend Xbox 360 and PS3 owners a helping-hand and released the Roxio Game Capture, a device that, once connected to one of the aforementioned games consoles, will enable users to record all of their exploits for later sharing.

So, the device in question connects to a gaming console via component video and stereo audio interfaces, but also to a PC via an USB port (because, if you happen to be wondering, all of the actual video recording is done on the PC).

According to Rovi, their Roxio Game Capture can record 480p videos and save them in a variety of web-friendly formats, including here AVI, WMV, DivX, and MP4.

Plus, users can also take screenshots of what's going on the respective displays, saved in JPG, PNG, TIFF, BMP or GIF formats.

As mentioned before, the actual video recording is done on a computer, and that's exactly the reason why the capture device from Rovi is accompanied by a full-featured video editing application, that enables users to manipulate the in-game videos as they see fit, users being able to add all sorts of effects and extras, but also to easily upload the resulting videos to sharing sites such as YouTube or Facebook.

Naturally, a device providing such a high level of versatility doesn't really come cheap, given the fact that the new Roxio Game Capture solution for gaming consoles sells for around 99,99 US dollars, a sum that, however, quite a lot of serious gamers will most likely be quite glad to pay, in order to be able to review their gaming exploits whenever they want.
