14 DAY TRIAL // Motorola RAZR was launched on the market back in November with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread on board. However, the US-based handset maker confirmed the smartphone would get an Ice Cream Sandwich update by the end of 2012.
Unfortunately, after promising it would deliver the update in Q1 2012, Motorola pushed the launch to Q2/Q3, which is extremely annoying especially coming from a company that has just been acquired by Google.
Until Motorola decides to come forward with the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the RAZR, there’s a maintenance update that the smartphone already received in several regions.
Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread includes lots of improvements, enhancements and a few new features, which are meant to change users’ experience.
Today, Motorola confirmed the update is available for download for Rogers and Fido customers who purchased the RAZR.
According to the official change log, the update brings the following changes:
- New Smart Action triggers and actions; - Auto upload in My Gallery: new options to automatically upload pictures and videos from your RAZR to your PC and to automatically synchronize content between the two devices; - Camera performance improvements; - Battery life improvements; - Stability improvements on the platform and across all applications; - Wi-Fi performance and stability: general improvements in Wi-Fi connectivity; - Security enhancements in the Google Android release; - MotoCast performance improvements; - Localization improvements; - User interface enhancements.
Software version 651.167.3331.XT910 is available for download OTA (over the air), which is why users will need a stable connection to a Wi-Fi network. It is recommended to have the phone’s battery at least 50% charged prior to installing the update.
Those who haven’t received a notification message for this update can manually check for it by going to Settings / About phone / System updates / Download, and choose Install after the update is downloaded.
