Take Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have announced a competition designed to promote Beaterator, the latest game created by the studio that is also responsible for the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The new Band Challenge will allow bands to win 5,000 USD if they use the new PlayStation Portable-based music creation tool from Rockstar to put together a track.

All the bands interested in taking part in the initiative need to initially complete this online form. The representatives of Rockstar Games are then set to narrow down the field of contestants to no more than 100.

They will be offered a PlayStation Portable with Beaterator pre installed and all the instructions they need in order to create a song using the software. All the tracks will then be made public and the final winner will be determined by vote by the MySpace and IGN communities.

The best track will be featured on the MySpace homepage and will also be played on the PlayStation Network, thereby assuring that an audience of millions will hear it and will know the name of the band that created it. Of course, the winning band will gain 5,000 USD, which is a significant sum for any aspiring musician.

Beaterator was initially an online tool put out by Rockstar, which allowed users to mix tracks and loops to create music. Now, the developers have brought Timbaland in as co-producer and greatly expanded the library of sounds and loops that the player can use to build their track.

There are more options to be used to put it together. At the moment, Beaterator can be played on the PlayStation Portable and on the PSN, and Rockstar is also planning a release later in 2009 for the iPhone. In the meantime, form a band and take part in the Beaterator Band Challenge.
