Arriving this fall

Music games have become extremely popular in recent times as they not only offer a lot of profit opportunities but also have a wide potential user base, as many people like to unwind by listening to music, not only through gaming.

But, while the market is largely divided between Activision's Guitar Hero and Harmonix's Rock Band franchises, there are plenty of other titles aiming at their crowns and threatening to overtake them in the near future.

One such game will be Beaterator, coming from Grand Theft Auto developer and publisher, Rockstar. Set to arrive on September 29 and October 2, 2009, in North America and Europe, respectively, the game will benefit from the creative input of one of the most famous music makers in the industry, Timbaland. Developed by Rockstar Leeds, it will arrive exclusively on the PlayStation Portable platform.

“Beaterator is a very natural progression for us,” Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, said. “Music is incredibly important to us here at Rockstar, and we believe that there are many people out there who share that passion and will be excited about creating music of their own.”

“I’ve worked closely with Rockstar Games to make something completely unique,” Timbaland said. “Beaterator is like taking my music studio and turning it into a suite of tools anyone can use. We can’t wait to hear the beats people make and share with the world.”

For those of you who don't know, Beaterator started life as a Flash application on the Rockstar website and quickly became popular with Internet users. It will feature thousands of loops and sounds from the creative team at Rockstar but also from Timbaland and will aim to deliver professional music-making tools right at the fingertips of any PSP user.
