The PlayStation Portable is a very popular console, having managed to achieve the impressive feat of moving over 50 million units across the world since its release. Now, as it is preparing to see its new revamped version in the form of the PSP Go, it seems that the platform will also receive other new features.

As such, one of the most rumored and talked about is the introduction of a PSP Go App Store, similar to how Apple made one for its iPhone and iPod Touch devices, in order to be a single destination for every piece of software made for that specific platform.

Now, it seems that this App Store is in fact real, as it was recently confirmed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's head of developer relations Zeno Colaço. He recently talked with Develop and said that a “specially branded” area of the PlayStation Store would be dedicated to the PSP Go in order to supply it with various applications.

“We’re introducing new initiatives for the PSP which take it beyond traditional gaming, but still includes elements from gaming, and also includes new developers,” Colaço said. “It is still a professional environment, you still need a development kit and you still need to have investment and a team. But it can be a small team. We don’t see any of the restrictions on the disc-based space being in this space.”

The SCEE executive also revealed that over 50 studios were already hard at work creating various types of applications for the PSP Go, highlighting that not all of them were games, and that some of them had some bold ideas concerning the device, which would be launched at the end of this year.

Overall, the PSP Go will most certainly not lack support from the development community, unlike its previous versions, and will certainly take the platform to new heights for the Japanese company.
