For a game of its kind, that is... Also, the PS2 version launches this year

When they first announced Rock Band, everyone was happy that they were getting another music game, similar to Guitar Hero, or probably even better, as it was being developed by the same guys behind the latter, Harmonix. Then they announced that it would indeed have more to offer than GH, featuring drums and vocals aside the guitar play. Then, they said that peripherals for Rock Band were coming from Fender. That's when people started wondering whether they'd be paying half their monthly salary on the game. Luckily, though, MTV has confirmed the bundle's price - $169.99.

That's surely a lot less than anyone had in mind, and especially a good bargain for PlayStation 3 owners who'll be getting a wireless guitar controller in the bundle for the same price, on November 23rd, when the game officially goes out.

MTV's Stephen Totilo reports: "We've been told by our corporate chiefs that, actually, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will launch on November 23 at a cost of $169.99. That package will include the game, one guitar, a mic and a drum kit."

But wait, there's more. According to the same source, PlayStation 2 owners will get their version of the game this year, not next year, as previously thought. The PS2 version of the game will also feature a wireless guitar, bringing the whole bundle to an affordable $159.99 (ten dollars less than the next-gen version of the game). "The full PS2 package ships December 10 for $159.99," confirmed MTV.

One more thing and I'm outta here. Remember the news saying that EA had a low price in mind for rock band? It hit the Internet back in July when, according to Playstation Universe, Electronic Arts had "addressed the USD 199 price point that retailers recently applied to the company's upcoming Rock Band title, insisting it is nothing more than pure speculation." We just thought EA was putting on a good act. Guess we were wrong, but we're certainly not sad about it.
