Why wouldn't it be true? Sony's cut some gigs along with the price before

Rumors about electronics giants such as Sony lowering the price on their hardware are always welcome, you have to agree. And even more welcome when you know that the source leaking this kind of information is a damn trusty one? OK, enough small talk. Apparently, sources tight with arstechnica.com say that Sony might be lowering the price for their PS3 again, but also cutting off some of the hard drive's gigabytes.

Since everyone now knows (or should know) that the 60GB PS3 is a discontinued product, Sony currently just has the 80GB SKU to show off. Now, instead of cutting the price on their currently available system (why would they be as nice as to do it, when they can be little devils and give less for less...?), Sony is believed to prepare the launch of a new PS3 model: the 40GB PS3.

This model is said to become available for a very affordable $399.99. The 80GB PS3 would then come down to $499.99, of course. Sounds like a good deal, huh? Oh, the source also claims that the Spider-Man 3, the movie on Blu-ray is likely to be bundled with both cheaper PS3 models. But here's the simpler way of putting it:

According to Ars technica... "Here's how Sony's platform pricing will shape up by the holiday shopping season:

80GB PlayStation 3: $499.99 40GB PlayStation 3: $399.99 Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray movie pack in with one, or both PlayStation 2: $99.99"

That's what they believe is going to happen and since the whole deal makes perfect sense, given that the holidays are on their way and all, I'd say this rumor is fairly credible. Why don't you share an opinion within the comments column below? Think it's possible? (the thing with the 40GB PS3, not writing comments).
