Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are back on Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes,” working on the sequel as we speak. The other day, while they were doing an outdoor scene, Downey was injured – by his co-star, no less, ShowbizSpy reports.

Reports in the media claim that the two mis-coordinated and Downey ended up with a black eye that required a lot of nursing with ice and even more makeup to be effectively hidden and for shooting to continue.

“The actor – who plays the titular character in the sequel – and his costar, Jude Law, were riding through the streets of London in a horsedrawn buggy when Jude jerked up his whip handle just as Downey leaned down,” the aforementioned e-zine reports.

“The handle banged Downey smack in the eye, knocking him flat and leaving him injured,” ShowbizSpy adds.

Of course, it was an honest mistake and it could have happened to anybody, but Downey was hit so hard that Jude couldn’t stop apologizing to him for minutes on end afterwards, says an eyewitness.

“The cast and crew came running as Downey howled, filming halted while medics nursed his eye with ice bags – and Jude kept whining apologies,” the spy says, as cited by ShowbizSpy.

However, as the saying goes, all’s well that ends well and, despite the hold-up, shooting resumed after a delay when the leading man was given the proper assistance.

“Hours later, medics determined the swelling had subsided, so after a bit of makeup magic – the scene was reshot,” the same unnamed spy tells the media.

The first “Sherlock Holmes” came out last year and, while Ritchie has always been considered a niche director, it marked his move into mainstream cinematography.

After “Sherlock” went to make history at the box office, and audiences and critics alike embraced his vision of the classic tale, talk of a sequel started picking up.

Robert Downey Jr. even dropped out of “Cowboys & Aliens,” which is now listing Daniel Craig as lead.
