The development team at Interceptor and publisher Apogee are saying that their recently launched The Rise of the Triad has recovered its costs after just one week on sale, which means any copies of the game currently delivered to gamers represent pure profit for the two companies.

Dave Oshry, the marketing director working at Interceptor Entertainment, is quoted by Gamefront as saying that, “Interceptor set out to create a specific game for a specific audience on day one. We knew that if we kept costs down and delivered what we promised through the right distribution channels for that audience, we’d be successful.”

The Rise of the Triad is a fast-paced first-person shooter that focuses on clearing levels as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

The solid sales seen by the game would not have been possible without support from digital distribution services that dominate the PC market.

Oshary adds, “Steam, GOG and Green Man Gaming have been amazing partners for Interceptor and Apogee, and we can’t thank them enough for helping us to get ROTT out there so much so that we turned a profit in week one.”

The original game in the series was launched in 1994 and the modern re-release keeps many of its core ideas intact, creating an experience that many older players will appreciate.

It’s unclear whether Interceptor and Apogee have plans to do more with the franchise after the solid sales period and whether the universe would be ready for a full-fledged sequel.

The success of The Rise of the Triad might encourage other companies to remake classic shooters in the coming years.

At the moment, the FPS market is dominated by the Call of Duty franchise from Activision and by the Battlefield series from Electronic Arts.
