The development team at InXile working on Wasteland 2 says that it has entered into a separate deal that will allow it to launch the original game on the Steam and the Good Old Games digital distribution services on the PC.

Chris Keenan, the project leader, writes in an official Kickstarter update that his studio was initially satisfied with the original deal with Electronic Arts, which would only see a version of the first title offered to backers.

He states, “We recently went to talk with EA to try and get it out in a different, separate format, and they accommodated our idea. We’ve now inked a new deal where we’ll be able to release Wasteland 1 separately.”

Keenan adds, “After getting the game in our hands and ensuring it runs on modern machines, we plan to distribute it FOR FREE to all our backers before Wasteland 2’s release, as well as sell it on GOG.com and Steam for anyone else interested in trying out this classic RPG.”

InXile also announces that an internal competition at the studio was held to see which level would be shown at the Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany.

After strenuous evaluation procedures, the team says that the prison will be shown to those attending and that a video showing off the features of the area will also soon be released for fans who are not planning on making the trip.

The new game is designed to offer players a classic party-based role-playing experience with turn-powered tactical battles.

The team has also recently offered a little more information on the various factions that players will meet and how they will react to their actions.

The Wasteland 2 beta is set to arrive in October and the team will reveal an official launch date for the game soon after, based on player feedback.
