Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg confirmed that famous movie director Ridley Scott, responsible for cult hits like Alien, Blade Runner or Gladiator, will be developing "exclusive episodic entertainment" just for the legions of Call of Duty fans from all around the world.

Activision is banking heavily on the massive popularity of its Call of Duty franchise, getting ready to debut not just a brand new, full pledged installment, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but also an innovative online service, in the form of Call of Duty Elite, not to mention a new DLC map pack, Rezzurection, for Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Besides these pure gaming offers, it seems that the company is also keen of branching out the extremely popular first person shooter franchise, and confirmed a few months ago that episodic entertainment content will be made available for fans of the series, especially members of the Call of Duty Elite service.

Since then, we've heard that the masterminds of cult TV show Arrested Development, Will Arnett and Jason Bateman, are going to work on this content, and Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg has now attached massively successful movie director Ridley Scott to this project.

According to the executive, via USA Today, Activision is developing " "exclusive episodic entertainment built just for the Call of Duty community. We are working with the likes of Will Arnett and Jason Bateman, Ben Silverman and Ridley and Tony Scott to create this content."

"Just like any other passion that people spend a lot of their free time doing, Call of Duty players share a common language and a common experience and we think we can create some entertainment content that they will love and talk about and share."

The Activision CEO also released newer sales figures for both last year's Black Ops game, which sold 25 million copies, and for the map packs released for it, which totaled around 14 million downloads.

As you can imagine, the company wants to make the franchise even more popular, and partnering up with such impressive Hollywood talent is definitely an interesting way to do this.
