Might include them in its new shooter project, still believes AAA games dominate market

Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that is led by Vince Zampella and Jason West, the pair of developers that were behind the success of the Modern Warfare franchise when they were working at Infinity Ward, does not yet have an announced video game but it seems that they are interested in incorporating the most recent ideas in their project.

Speaking to Gamasutra at the 3D Gaming Summit Vince Zampella has said, “I love the idea of digital content and delivery. You can now log in at night, see your friend playing something, and now, instead of saying, 'I wish I had a copy to play with them,' you can download it and be on and playing with them. I think that's huge.”

The developer believes that the free-to-play model is not clearly established in the gaming industry but that the distribution of resources means that there's still a clear difference in terms of quality between the AAA titles that cost 60 dollars (60 Euro in Europe) and those that are offered for free.

Zampella added, “There's a place for them, and it's a different type of game that fills a different hole, there are mobile games that complement console, and experiences where my wife can play something that complements what I'm playing on my TV.”

The free-to-play business model has mainly been used by MMO and social titles, with many analysts speculating that Star Wars: The Old Republic, which has been developed by BioWare and is published by Electronic Arts, will be the last big release in the space to use a subscription model.

EA is also working with Respawn Entertainment on their next project, although the two companies have not said what genre the game will tackle or what the story might be.

Jason West and Vince Zampella are still engaged in legal action with Activision over their firing from Infinity Ward.
