Will not make the same mistakes it made with Modern Warfare 2

The two ex-leaders of Infinity Ward and leading creators of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare concepts have said that one of the most important lessons they have learned is that any intellectual property that will be created by their new Resapwn venture will be owned by them and not the publishers.

Speaking to IGN in an interview, Vince Zampella, one of the founders of the Respawn Entertainment studio, has said, “I think one of the things that we’re setting out to do is empowering people here to have ownership in what they’re working on. Respawn has ownership of the IP that we’re working on. So that empowers everyone here to feel more ownership and put more of themselves into it. We’re not the only studio that does that, but it’s a big part of what we’re trying to do.”

Jason West also talked about the separation from Activision Blizzard and what the pair had learned, stating, “The biggest change for me is probably I know a lot more lawyers and they look over all the contracts. So that’s the biggest change for me.”

The pair has also revealed that they are still busy hiring new people for their studio, which currently has 55 full-time employees, and that they are at the moment still keeping information about their next project under wraps.

Respawn is set to work with publisher Electronic Arts on their next project, which is almost certainly going to be first-person shooter.

An important number of the leading developers at Infinity Ward have followed the pair at Respawn.

The suits between the two developers and Activision Blizzard are still ongoing, with West and Zampella aiming to get important sums of money in the form of loyalties for Modern Warfare 2, while the publisher is trying to get damages for breach of contract.
