Video game publisher Capcom has released a new trailer for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D which confirms that the Nintendo 3DS based title is now slated for launch on June 28 on the United States market, with Japanese gamers set to get access to it earlier, on June 2.

When The Mercenaries 3D was initially announced during the fall of last year, Capcom said that it planned to launch the game during the spring of 2011 while Nintendo repeatedly talked about it as being one the launch window titles for its new handheld in the United States.

Resident Evil is a well-known franchise and the creation of a Nintendo 3DS version was seen as providing hardcore gamers with a reason to pick up the new device and explore its three-dimensional abilities.

Capcom has not said what the reasons for the almost two-month delay were, but the accelerated launch process for the Nintendo 3DS might be, at least in part, to blame.

As the name implies Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is inspired by the similarly titled modes that players can already enjoy in the fourth and fifth main releases in the series.

Players will be able to use a number of characters and weapons in a number of arenas to kill as many zombies as possible while a timer counts down.

The Mercenaries 3D will deliver more modes that change the rules for some arenas and some specific missions seen in Resident Evil 4 and 5 will be included.

Players who pick it up will also be able to engage in cooperative play with their friends and will get to play a demo of Revelations, another Resident Evil game for the Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo 3DS sales are slowing down both in Japan and the United States and industry watchers are suggesting that one of the culprits might be the weak launch day title line up for the device.
