Rednano Mobile announced recently that its Rednano Locate, a free location-based mobile search and directory service, was available for a wide range of smartphone users. At the same time, it seems that the first two mobile phones to include the service are HTC Touch 3G and HTC Touch Cruise, two Windows Mobile-powered devices.

The Rednano Locate has been officially introduced back in December 2008, and it offers users the possibility to search from a total of 100,000 vendors, including retail outlets, restaurants or petrol stations, to find what they need near them. The service is meant to provide them with full addresses, contact details, maps and the latest ‘live’ traffic updates, while also being able to deliver a wide range of promotions.

The Rednano Locate is now supported on a number of more than 50 mobile phone models, including devices powered by the Symbian operating system, as well as on the recently added Windows Mobile-based handsets. With the inclusion of the service into its handsets, HTC becomes one of Rednano Mobile’s strategic partners.

The HTC Touch 3G was selected to have the Rednano Locate preloaded on it due to the fact that it comes with a touch-responsive interface. The handset is able to respond greatly to finger movements, and offers users a seamless navigation experience through contacts, media and web pages, while also providing both speed and precision. It comes with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, as well as with support for email or YouTube. The HTC Touch Cruise provides users with the capability to input comments into the photographs or videos that they take, while also including geo-tagging features.

“As part of our Mobile strategy to ensure that Rednano Locate is made available to more than 90% of the mobile phones in the market by June 2009, we will be working with other renowned mobile phone manufacturers to preload Rednano Locate in more mobile devices,” said Ms Shirley Tan, director of Business Development (Mobile). The company offers two more services to mobile phone users, including Rednano WAP and SMS 3333. More information on Rednano Locate can be found here.
