Capcom's Christian Svensson recently talked about the redesigned Dante from the next Devil May Cry games, entitled DmC, and how the character's new look made the title much more visible.

Devil May Cry already holds a special place for hack and slash game fans, and its main character, Dante, is extremely loved by all gamers.

When Capcom revealed the redesigned DmC that gave Dante a whole new look, fans had pretty different reactions, with some loving the idea while the majority hated the fact that their beloved character was replaced by an almost new one.

According to Capcom's vice president of Strategic Planning and Business Development, Christian Svensson, this redesign made the new DmC much more visible to the public and guaranteed lots of publicity.

"I will argue that any changes will bring about a knee-jerk reaction from fans," he said. "We know that; we knew that going into it. To be fair, I think some of the strategy here was to create that discussion and dialogue, and I think it drastically raises the visibility of the title versus if we had just done another Dante."

Even with the most of the reactions being backlash against the change, Capcom is pretty confident that the Dante design will suffer littles changes, as the development studio of DmC, Ninja Theory, will stick to its guidelines, and create a stunning origin story for Dante.

"This is meant to be an origin story, so this is Dante before you knew who Dante was," he explained. "There is going to be some interesting changes and twists to what people think they know about Dante or where he came from. We aren't planning on deviating greatly from the path that is there."

"There may still be some tweaks here or there - I'm not privy to what's going on - but by and large that will be the direction the team is going down."

So it seems that this redesign of Dante was pretty much required to get the revived Devil May Cry on the map, but it won't be just for the sake of publicity, at least according to Capcom.
