If Samsung Instinct or Palm Treo 800w are not your thing and you're a Sprint user in need of a cool touchscreen handset, we have good news: HTC Touch Diamond is said to hit Sprint's stores on August 28. We're talking about the CDMA version of the Diamond, of course, which is a bit thicker than the GSM one and it also has a different back panel (it's a flat one, instead of the diamond-shaped original).

What's more intriguing is that Sprint will apparently release the new HTC in a red edition. Some images with the red Diamond have appeared on the Sprint Users forum, showing the smartphone to be half-dressed in the said color.

The CDMA Touch Diamond is already available North of the US border, in Canada, offered by Telus for 149.99 CAD on a three-year contract agreement. For the moment, there are no details about the price Sprint will sell the handset for, but US users should expect it to be similar to the Canadian one, with the difference that they won't have to sing a contract for three years.

Besides the slightly changed look, there is only one other difference between the GSM and the CDMA Touch Diamond: the latter comes with a better battery of 1350 mAh.

The August 28 release date for the Diamond is not yet confirmed by Sprint, so the smartphone might actually be out later. Even so, users have a really nice handset to look forward to. Its highlights are: a 2.8 inch TFT touchscreen display with 640 x 480 pixels (VGA), 4GB of built-in memory, GPS, Wi-Fi, Windows Mobile 6.1 and all the array of applications that come with it.
