More bang for your bucks

More smash and bang is about to become available for Red Faction: Guerrilla fans as, after already releasing two DLC packs, game developer Volition revealed that a third one was in the making. The DLC will be called The Smasher Pack and will continue to march on the same road the previous one did. With a focus on multiplayer, the extra feature will provide eight new maps for the multilayer-only Wrecking Crew mode, all for the enjoyment of those who prefer taking out their frustration on someone that they can put a face to and not just another NPC.

The pack will also include a brand-new game mode. Behemoth comes to enrich the ground pounding arsenal of the simpler previous modes with a far more destructive addition. The mode will provide one of the three types of walkers found in the single player campaign to bring forth a new level of chaos and destruction. The walker will augment the simple, more or less, backpack weapons left at the disposal of gamers with the destruction brought by giant mining robots.

Still, how exactly mining rigs received things like shoulder rocket-packs and jump jets is still unclear, but it most definitely shows that the Earth Defense Force was asking for trouble when they allowed those things to slip in the hands of miners. The heavy walkers resemble more the Mad Cat medium from MechWarrior than normal equipment used in ore extraction. With that note in mind, the oppression the Red Faction complains about and the abuse that they claim the people of Mars have suffered can't be that bad. Any military organization that allows civilians to operate giant mechs with rocket launchers should receive a prize, not a series of terrorist attacks. Three cheers for EDF.

And that's not all that's good on Mars. Volition promises that the pack includes even more new things, further details remaining to be revealed in a week. The financial details were released and the Smasher Pack will cost 400 Microsoft Points, more commonly known as $5. The pack will become available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 1.
