THQ seems really interested in making Red Faction Armageddon one of the biggest game launches of March 2011. The publisher has announced that it is working with the SyFy channel, which specializes in science fiction content, to produce a full length Red Faction movie that will be launched during the same week as the videogames and now the company has confirmed it is also planning to launch a smaller videogame on the PlayStation Network and on Xbox Live in order to keep gamers interested in the franchise.

Danny Bilson, who is the executive vice president of core games at THQ, revealed, “There's going to be a Red Faction arcade game that ships about three or four months before Armageddon. What's interesting is that we will sell it to the fans, it will have content you can download that is TV show-related, it will build up to the new game and also we can use it to drive pre-orders, too; we can give codes and aspects of it, we can give the whole thing away.”

The concept behind the new XBLA and PSN game is to cross promote content linked to the same intellectual property, offering potential customers multiple ways to approach it. Apparently, the new strategy will not be limited to Red Faction Armageddon with the upcoming Saint Row 3 getting the same cross media treatment.

Red Faction Armageddon is again developed by Volition and will take place quite a few years after the events of the most recent game in the series. It seems that the EDF will not be the main antagonist this time around, the action moving under the surface of Mars.

The mines and tunnels of the planet are the new home of humanity after the surface was rendered pretty much uninhabitable and now what's left of the humanity on Mars needs to face off against a very alien threat.
