The same thing, all over again

Red Alert 3 is one of the most highly-anticipated strategy games this holiday season, promising to deliver to gamers the same great and balanced gameplay, along with an amusing story. Electronic Arts, the developer of this game, has really promoted the title and invested quite a lot in getting the best creative team behind it.

Dan Silverman, one of the producers of the game, has recently talked with VideoGamer about how this awaited game will perform on the platforms it will be launched. For those of you who don't know, the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game have been launched recently, with a PlayStation 3 version under heavy development, which has no concrete release date set.

Silverman then tackled the very sticky issue of PC piracy, and how it impacted the games that came out on that platform. But he didn't just complain, as a lot of developers have been doing recently; he also offered some solutions, which were implemented into Red Alert 3 to counter the piracy effect.

"In all honesty piracy is a huge concern. Luckily people haven't figured out an easy way to pirate on consoles, otherwise you'd be telling me, 'oh, the console market's dying!'. It's a big problem and it's hard because you've got people like Greg Black, lead balance designer, and a lot of guys on the development team who have been spending countless hours and someone just goes to download on a torrent site and they get the game. We're trying some new things and I think we'll be productive in the years to come."

He then went on to develop his statements about these new measures, which came to raise the interest of the PC gamer in buying a title, by saying "Things like digital distribution, things like doing micro-transactions, things like that really find a way to get people involved and then also keep them interested. It's also a challenging thing on our end to make the game more engaging to people. If you give people a reason to buy the game they'll buy it."

These are some quite interesting facts, and it's really nice to hear about a developer that doesn't limit itself to just complaining about the piracy issue. Red Alert 3 is a strategy game that offers a very compelling single-player campaign, coupled with an extremely well-polished online co-op and multiplayer mode, which have really motivated customers to buy this game.
