New worlds, same horrors

Rebellion has unveiled quite a few details regarding the new Aliens vs. Predator videogames, which is set to be released for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC.

It seems that the developers want to bring back the successful elements of the 1999 original, while offering upgraded graphical quality and better gameplay mechanics.

Jason Kingsley, who is co founder of Rebellion, has talked to PSW magazine about the upcoming videogame and said that “We always had many more ideas that we wanted to put into the previous games, but were limited by the hardware of the time. Now we have been able to push things far further than before. So there's plenty of inspiration and features from the previous games, including the key, iconic weapons and equipment from the 1999 game forming the basis for the latest version's gameplay.”

It seems that the developers are not interested in setting their videogame on the same worlds as before. The new game will take place some 30 years after the events already depicted and the ground will be a new world where colonists discovered that they were not alone.

Ancient ruins are discovered and the nefarious Weyland Yutani company sweeps in to do more detailed research. What they found are xenomorphs but all their attempts at containing them fail. From this premise, Rebellion is set to create three distinct single player campaigns, emphasizing the unique traits of the Marines, the Predator and the aliens themselves. The multiplayer element of the game should be built around a rock-paper-scissor system, which is set to make sure that one race does not totally dominate another.

Now, the only thing that Rebellion needs to do to be sure that it has a best seller on its hands is to recreate the initial stages of the Marine campaign in the original Aliens vs. Predator videogame, which managed to be some of the scariest ten minutes of the videogames released in the 90's.
