So says SEGA

Hollywood has certainly brought a lot of interesting ideas and IPs (Intellectual Properties) to the gaming industry. We've seen many titles based on different characters from movies or other creations, with a new tradition being to release a game alongside a movie at the same time, but sometimes companies don't even need the excuse of a movie to release a game based on it.

Such is the case with SEGA, which has just announced that it would release a brand new Alien vs. Predator title next year, taking two of the most horrifying monsters ever to grace the silver screen and place them once again, against each other. The studio to work on this future game is the same that brought the first AvP title in 1999, Rebellion, which guarantees that we will be in for some very interesting gameplay moments.

“The innovative new AvP game presents an exciting opportunity for us,” says CEO of SEGA West, Naoya Tsurumi. “It represents a fantastic addition to our growing Aliens franchise and the reinvention of one of gaming's most cherished iconic titles. By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate it, SEGA will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans.”

Tsurumi's statement also means that the Aliens: Colonial Marines title won't respect its release date (late 2009) and will appear after this game. While it may seem that things aren't going so fast for the development of this future franchise, it's good to hear that the development teams will have a lot of time to polish the titles.

The first two AvP games were very interesting, and this future one will surely attract a lot of fans of the games and movies based on this epic struggle between the human-hating extraterrestrial life forms.
