Seven45 Studios has announced that it plans to launch a new guitar simulation videogame, called Power Gig: Rise of the SixString, set to use a functioning six string electric guitar as the controller. It will benefit from exclusive deals with guitar legend Eric Clapton, the Dave Matthews Band and Kid Rock, artists who will be offering their music exclusively for the videogame.

Power Gig: Rise of the SixString is slated to arrive in October 2010 for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and the developers are saying they plan to keep most of the mechanics of the music simulation genre, which broke through with titles like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, while also adding an option to switch on chording, which will require specific moves to reach all the notes.

The idea is to actually teach the gamer a bit about playing a real guitar while also enjoying the songs of Eric Clapton, Kid Rock and the Dave Matthews Band. It's not clear how the game will be handling instruments other than the guitar, especially the drums and the vocal lines.

Bernard Chiu, who is the Chief Executive Officer and the chairman of Seven45 Studios, stated, “We are extremely excited and proud for Power Gig: Rise of the SixString to be the first videogame to attract the interest of iconic guitarists and performers like Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews Band and Kid Rock. It thrills us to know artists of their caliber agree we are breaking important ground by delivering a game featuring an authentic guitar that absolutely anyone can pick up and play, and which can impart real-life guitar skills that could put anyone on the path to joining these music legends on future lists of the world’s great performers.”

Rumors linked to the upcoming Rock Band 3 from Harmonix and MTV Games also suggested that the game would aim to teach players about real life use of the instruments the game simulates.
