Little detail at the moment

The people at Bungie are apparently very busy internally testing a new “Halo Reach Super Secret Game Mode” they are not yet willing to openly talk about. The developers are only saying that it will not be a variation on the Firefight cooperative mode introduced in last year's Halo 3: ODST but something completely new, geared towards getting points via in-game actions to spend on a wide array of upgrade options.

The official Bungie developer site reads “Some number of players will square off against some number of other players in what will undoubtedly be a rousing and highly competitive game of something we're not talking about yet! Points awarded for doing all kinds of untold stuff!”

It's clearly tongue in cheek as far as descriptions for new multiplayer modes go but it offers fans of the series confirmation that Reach will indeed introduce something completely new to the human versus human element of the videogame.

At the moment, Reach is a mystery. We know that it will take place at one of the most important moments in the Human – Covenant war and that it will feature a variety of Spartans in what we know to be their last stand against the enemy forces. The original trailer, which was shown late in 2009, seems to suggest that the game will be heavily squad based, with the various characters having different armors and varied weapon loadouts.

It remains to be seen how many players will be able to cooperate to defeat the Covenant forces and how customizable the main character will be. Microsoft and Bungie, which insists this is the last Halo title it will be working on, are planning to put out Reach at some point during this year, probably in the run up to Christmas.
