Cooperative oriented

The Spike Video Game Awards were home not only to quite a few awards, with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves taking Game of the Year, but also to a lot of cinematic trailers for those titles developers and publishers hope would make it big in 2010. And one of the most expected reveals was that related to Halo: Reach, which Bungie is developing and Microsoft is set to publish exclusively for the Xbox 360 home console.

The 2 and a half minute trailer is very slick and does not feature anything close to actual gameplay footage but gives away some clues as to the general direction the game will take. It seems that Reach will be cooperative play enabled, with two and even four players able to jump into a Spartan persona and join the fight against the Covenant. At one point, a specific mention is made that “lone wolf” tactics are not going to work in the mission to come, which is a pretty clear hint at coop play.

There are also some characters that will probably be heavily featured in the single player campaign: a female Spartan warrior, who might have a command position and a Spartan, who has his helmet emblazoned with a skull (maybe in a nod to Ghost from the Modern Warfare series) and might be the stealth killer of the team.

It will be interesting to see what Bungie will make out of Halo: Reach, which is rumored to be its last title with the franchise, given that the outcome of the battle itself is pretty well known, with Reach bombarded by the powerful Covenant fleet for orbit with only Master Chief making it out in time in order for them to go on and star in the original Halo trilogy of titles.

Here's the Reveal trailer for Halo: Reach for those who have not seen it yet:
