With rumors rising about how both AMD and NVIDIA have delayed their respective dual-GPU video cards, their partners are still hard at work on customizing existing boards, and Club 3D has just completed its latest Radeon HD 6870.

As consumers may or may not know, Club 3D launched a factory-overclocked version of the AMD Radeon HD 6850 around the start of November.

Now, the same outfit has stepped up to unveil a tweaked version of that card's so-called big brother, the Radeon HD 6870.

This newcomer, as one would have guessed by now, has higher GPU and memory clock speeds than the stock model.

While the reference design has the graphics processor set at 900 MHz and the memory at 4,200 MHz, the newcomer has clocks of 920 MHz and 4,400 MHz, respectively.

Other than that, Club 3D made sure to implement all of the other features that the currently strongest HD 6000 series member is known for.

This means that the card has 1,120 stream processors, 1 GB of GDDR5 VRAM and a memory interface of 256 bits.

Furthermore, the adapter has dual-DVI and HDMI 1.4 outputs, as well as a pair of mini DisplayPort 1.2 connectors and supports the Eyfinity technology.

Those in need of a reminder should know that Eyefinity allows one to spread the display area over 3 monitors.

There is also the possibility of setting up multi-GPU configurations via CrossFireX, which should further boost the frame rates even in the most demanding DirectX 11 games.

Other specifications include support for OpenCL, Blu-ray 3D, the PC Express 2.1 x16 bus and an integrated HD audio controller (Dolby True HD support).

Finally, the hardware maker used a custom-made dual-slot cooler, so as to better handle the extra heat generated by the higher frequencies. Pricing and availability, unfortunately, remain a mystery.
