Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new version of its mobile application portal, the BlackBerry App World.

The software portal has been around for quite some time now, and already registered a series of important updates, but it seems that there still are a series of enhancements that it can taste.

The new BlackBerry App World will sport version 3.0 when released and it should bring forth a wide range of fixes and enhancements, as well as new features.

For starters, we should note that RIM is said to have already sent out emails to BlackBerry application developers, informing them on the roll-out of the new app store version.

Apparently, the new BlackBerry App World 3.0 will affect the experience application builders receive from it as well, as there are new fields that they will need to fill in when adding new applications to the portal.

A recent article on berryreview notes that these new fields would include:

Short Description: This is your feature description or your one line sales pitch. Please provide a “short description” of each of your items to make your app more discoverable. We support multilingual short descriptions so you can make your sales pitch more local and relevant to better attract users who speak more languages around the globe. - Note: BlackBerry App World supports 108 Countries worldwide and growing! - The maximum character length is 50 Characters (including spaces

Feature Image: You can now upload a featured app image. This is required if you want your application to be considered for feature. It will make your application much more discoverable. - Image Specifications: 1920 x 1186 pixel .PNG file

Moreover, the news site notes that the BlackBerry App World Vendor portal will be down for maintenance today, between 2:00am and 6:00am (EDT).

This clearly shows that RIM is getting ready for the launch of a new version of the storefront, though no info on when that might happen has emerged until now.

Unfortunately, specific info on what changes the user experience might suffer in the new BlackBerry App World 3.0 have not emerged either, though RIM might unveil all the necessary details in the near future, so stay tuned.
