For handsets powered by BlackBerry OS 4.2 or higher

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion recently announced the launch of the BlackBerry App World on the market in Taiwan. According to the company, the new release offers BlackBerry smartphone users in the country the possibility to access a wide range of free applications developed for their devices. The BlackBerry App World is available for download directly on smartphones, and can be accessed bia both Wi-Fi and mobile networks in Taiwan.

“We are thrilled to bring BlackBerry App World to customers in Taiwan,” said Norm Lo, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Research In Motion. “BlackBerry App World enables customers to discover and download a wide range of business, productivity and entertainment applications, enriching their mobile experience at work or play.”

According to RIM, the BlackBerry App World will present to users a relevant catalog of applications according to the device they own. The software solutions portal sports a great deal of features, including a Front Page Carousel, where certain apps are showcased, Top Downloads page, Categories (apps are arranged in categories, like entertainment, games, IM and social networking, news, weather, productivity and more), Search/Filter, Reviews, Recommend, Update Notifications and more.

“Taiwan Mobile is proud to be the only mobile carrier offering BlackBerry products and services in Taiwan and we are very excited with the introduction of BlackBerry App World in the market,” said Cliff Lai, Chief Operating Officer of Consumer Business Group, Taiwan Mobile. “BlackBerry App World will open up great business opportunities for developers and mobile operators and it will offer consumers a wide range of mobile applications to create a richer mobile experience. Taiwan Mobile will support BlackBerry App World and continue working with developers to build more applications on the BlackBerry platform.”

The BlackBerry App World is avaialble in Taiwan for those smartphones that feature a trackball, trackpad or touch-screen, and which are based on BlackBerry OS 4.2 or higher. Among these models, RIM counts the BlackBerry Storm and BlackBerry Bold series, both available on the market in Taiwan.
