Based on BlackBerry 6 OS, the smartphone offers TD-SCDMA connectivity

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has just announced the release of their first BlackBerry smartphone to arrive on shelves in China with support for the TD-SCDMA wireless network that China Mobile operates, the BlackBerry Bold 9788.

The handset will be released on shelves at the wireless carrier starting with this month in a sleek, appealing form factor.

Boasting an iconic design, the new handset will provide users in China with an easy-to-use keyboard, as well as with increased performance capabilities, great multimedia features, and enhanced communication capabilities.

“China Mobile and RIM have to date been focused on successfully introducing the BlackBerry solution to enterprise customers in China,” the duo announced.

“The launch of the BlackBerry Bold 9788 smartphone showcases the strong partnership between China Mobile and RIM, and provides a solid foundation from which the two companies will continue to work to better address local market needs.”

“The new smartphone also marks China Mobile and RIM’s efforts to broaden the reach of BlackBerry smartphones and services to Chinese SMBs and professional individuals.”

The specifications list of BlackBerry Bold 9788 includes support for TD-SCDMA connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi capabilities, built-in GPS receiver, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with auto focus, flash and video recording capabilities.

The new device also comes to the market with a microSD memory card slot that enables users to expand the available internal memory, as well as with a range of applications that were specifically tailored to fit the needs of China Mobile's customers.

The new BlackBerry Bold 9788 runs under the BlackBerry 6 OS, and comes with a WebKit-based browser that can deliver fast Internet navigation, as well as with social networking and RSS feeds (Social Feeds) capabilities, and more.

Not to mention that users will be able to download and install applications, games and other content from the BlackBerry App World. The mobile phone also comes with support for RIM's BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

As stated above, RIM announced that the new BlackBerry Bold 9788 will be released via all authorized China Mobile and RIM channels in the country before the end of September, but did not offer specific info on its price tag.
