Still going elsewhere

Codemasters, the publisher that is taking care of the daily operations of RF Online, said that it plans to close the MMO on November 10. The move is pinned on disagreements with the original developer of the game, the South Korea based CCR.

Codemasters has removed the ability of players to purchase in-game Novus credits and there's no option to get new game accounts and to create subscriptions. Players have more than a month to expend the Novus credits that they have at the moment and to get some closure. There's no word regarding any special event related to the closure of the game in the Western markets.

Codemasters Online, the specialized division of the company, says that, this being the first MMO that is has published, it is very proud of the work put into RF Online. A statement reveals that “It was also one of the first Eastern-style MMORPGs to ever make it to Western market and do well, and it's with much fondness that we look back and remember these achievements”. The game was run by Codemadters for more than two years and it never achieved great success, although it did well enough to encourage the company to negotiate a new agreement with CCR.

The game, originally named Rising Force, is a pretty standard MMO as far as gameplay goes. The setting is the distant planet of Novus where three distinct factions battle for domination. The Bellato Union, The Holy Alliance Cora and the Accretia Empire are using both magic and technology to destroy each other. The game is interesting because sword and bow players can meet nuke wielding and mecha using players in the game world, making for an interesting gameplay experience.

Even though it's closed in Europe and North America, the MMO will still be playable in Asia and in South America.
