Windows 7 revolution

Ubisoft and Microsoft have joined hands to introduce multi-touch capabilities to the upcoming R.U.S.E. strategy game, which is set to appear in the first quarter of 2010 for home-gaming consoles and for the PC. The development of the game is handled by Eugen System and, apart from the multi-touch feature, which has been now unveiled, Ubisoft has been saying that the game will also boast a very detailed terrain model with impressive zooming capabilities.

John Parkes, who is a marketing director for EMEA, has described the effort by saying that, “Making images interactive is at the core of the video game industry, and over the last few years we have been striving to make this interactivity as intuitive and direct as possible. Today, thanks to Windows 7 and its full multitouch support, the barrier between the player and the image has been removed: they become one. As a strategy game relying on a clean and intuitive interface built around the zoom, R.U.S.E. was the perfect candidate for Ubisoft to demonstrate how multitouch improves and streamlines the way games are played.”

R.U.S.E. is set in the now-all-too-familiar World War II period, but Ubisoft has sought out this setting in order to provide something known by the gamer, in the units and the sides engaged, while aiming to warp most of the other gameplay mechanics that they have grown accustomed to in real-time strategy titles.

As the name implies, R.U.S.E. tries to make the player think in terms of deceptions and traps, making sure to keep their enemies in the dark, while misleading them to their own destruction. The gamer will be able to go from an overview of the whole battlefield to the ground level of engaged squads in mere seconds, allowing them more control than ever over their moves and their tactics.
