Transformer Dark of the Moon is another video game linked to the blockbuster movie series, which this summer got a new installment, and to the old Hasbro toy line up and, despite the efforts of the High Moon Team, the game seems to be destined to languish in the mediocrity space destined for video games linked to movies.

I played through the first two missions of the game for this Quick View and there's nothing here to make the game seem like an improvement over other third-person shooters.

The levels are uninspiring and seem devoid of all human life but also lack any sense of place and the game fails to make any of the fights that the robots get into have any meaning.

The mechs are cool, although we mostly see them from behind, but the transliterations, while pretty interesting from a visual stand point, are too quick (which makes sense from a gameplay perspective) and there's no time to appreciate the process.

The Transformers now get a third form, Shadowforce, between car and robot and it feels pretty powerful, but it all but makes the car aspect unnecessary and feels like a gimmick that adds two abilities and two weapons to each character but does little else.

The firefights, especially when taking place in the wide open arenas that the developers sometime create, can become exciting when multiple and more powerful enemies are thrown in and the melee moves are satisfying to deliver and have a nice physical impact, but it's not enough to make the game interesting in the long term.

The second level of the game includes one boss fight and, while offering a nice break from the corridor shooting gameplay, it feels forced and is resolved in a way which felt unsatisfying to me as a player.

Here's a look at Transformers Dark of the Moon in action:
