   Qualcomm announces support for Windows Phone 7 Series with its Snapdragon chipsets

Qualcomm Incorporated, a worldwide leading developer and innovator of wireless technologies, announced recently that it would provide support for the recently unveiled Windows Phone 7 Series from Microsoft via its integrated chipset solutions and system software. According to the company, it is working with Microsoft and device makers on the development of mobile phones powered by its Snapdragon platforms and running under the Windows Phone OS 7.

The first handsets powered by the new OS should arrive in time for the 2010 holiday season, and Qualcomm's solutions offer high-performance, custom CPUs with 3G and powerful multimedia capabilities, the company added. The new Windows Phone software comes with a smart design and with integrated experiences, and the combination between these and Qualcomm's chipset solutions will result in a new generation of devices that can redefine the mobile experience.

“People’s lives are not a set of discrete tasks and their phones should not be either. Windows Phone 7 Series software offers a fresh approach that integrates the Web, applications and content and brings new services such as Zune and Xbox LIVE to the phone for the first time,” said Andy Lees, senior vice president, Microsoft. “We’ve worked closely with Qualcomm on Windows Phone 7 Series software and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets are an integral part of bringing to life the rich, integrated experiences on a Windows Phone in a way that conserves battery life and provides always-on connectivity.”

Qualcomm Incorporated is known all around the world for the innovative digital wireless communications products and services it delivers on the market. At the same time, the company says that it has been working with Microsoft on Windows Phone for a long time, and that it will support the launch of exciting new Windows Phone 7 Series handsets featuring its Snapdragon chipsets. “We are very excited about the next generation of devices that will leverage the synergy of our highly integrated system on a chip solutions and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Series software,” Steve Mollenkopf, executive vice president of Qualcomm and president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, stated.
