14 DAY TRIAL // A new version of the Qt SDK, namely 1.1 beta, is now available for download for developers interested in using it for the release of applications, marking the merger of the Nokia Qt SDK and the Qt Desktop SDKs. The new software would offer support for the development of application for mobile devices, as well as for other platforms, and is available for download on multiple desktop OSes.
The new release comes with a series of updates in various areas, including Qt 4.7.2 for Symbian ^1 and Symbian ^3, Qt 4.7.2 for the Desktop, Qt 4.7.2 for the Qt Simulator, Qt Mobility 1.1.1 for Symbian^1, Symbian^3 and the Qt Simulator, Qt Creator 2.1 final, and Qt Simulator 1.1 beta.
Moreover, the new release comes with a series of updates to the Symbian Complementary package, so as to offer the toolchain and build tools for the Symbian platforms.
“I am pleased to announce that the Qt SDK 1.1 beta has been launched,” Juha Latvala notes in a recent post on the QT blog.
“While the SDK may be a beta, Qt 4.7.2 and Qt Creator 2.1 releases within it are final, meaning we have a complete package of the Qt Quick offering. Qt Quick is our fantastic new tool for creating lightweight, dynamic UIs and apps.”
As stated above, the new SDK is meant to put together the Qt SDK for desktop and the Nokia Qt SDK, which is aimed mainly at mobile phones.
“This Qt SDK 1.1 beta is a precursor to a final ‘combined’ SDK that merges the previous desktop-focused Qt SDK and the mobile-focused Nokia Qt SDK. That package is the Qt SDK and this release is a beta of the upcoming version 1.1. We are carrying forward this one-SDK strategy,” the said post continues.
As stated above, the new software was made available for download for desktop platforms including Windows, Mac OS and Linux. The complete changelog for the new release was packed inside the installation package.
