So Says Reggie Fils-Aime

In the last few years, Downloadable Content has played a big role in the gaming industry, as it has allowed companies to support their released titles for quite some time, while still making a nice amount of profit off players who want their gameplay experience to be enriched by various new things.

But one of the major companies involved in video games hasn't adopted DLC as much as others, because it contradicted with its philosophy of offering the best experience to the players. That company is Nintendo, which has made it clear on several occasions that DLC will arrive, but not at this time and only when the actual video game allows for it.

With the most recent remake of the classic Punch-Out!!, players have hoped that, besides the already announced fighters with whom Little Mac will duke it out, more characters will arrive in the future with the help of DLC. But Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has talked with GameTrailers and has said that this game won't receive any other content after its launch.

“I'm certain that there will be opportunities for that down the road,” Reggie Fils-Aime shares. “But, really for us — you know Mr. Iwata has said this many times — the way we look at our first party is we look for a way to drive the install base of the hardware. That's what we're trying to do. That coupled with downloadable content isn't as great a match, but I'm certain there will be some opportunities down the road with downloadable content from a Nintendo perspective, just not on Punch-Out!!”

So, there you have it boxing and Punch-Out!! fans, those Wii Points will still go to purchasing new things from WiiWare for quite some time until Nintendo finds a title with which it will be satisfied to make DLC. Until then, we can still look forward to the great experience that Punch-Out!! will offer to players when it will arrive at the middle of May.
