Project Origin is F.E.A.R. 2 without being called that. Copyright and intellectual property issues make it so that Monolith cannot use the well known game, but they are developing one that's designed to make players forget the F.E.A.R. franchise while expanding the game universe and putting to shame the Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate expansion packs released by TimeGate.

The original game was noted for the interesting way it managed to blend classical shooter action with some very scary moments featuring one creepy, Japanese horror inspired, little girl. The game worked because the enemies were pretty varied and because the AI of the various combatants was very advanced, posing a variety of tactical challenges to the player.

The game comes with a host of new things. The number of weapon slots was increased to four, with the destructive power of weapons increased to deal with larger and more powerful enemies. The environments, which in the first game were pretty bland and repetitive, will have more variety and more destructible elements in the game, with a lot more cover options open to the player.

The number of violent hallucinations and weird sounds will increase and Alma, the deadly and sad girl, will apparently take a more active role in the game world. She will interact with the player as well as with various other NPCs that are spread through out the adventure.

The game is set to introduce new multiplayer elements, but the developers are not saying anything about this at the time.

Monolith is really aiming to get the game to as many fans as possible and Project Origin is set to arrive for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC, with the different platforms probably getting it at the same time, in the first quarter of 2009.
