The Pokemon Company and Tecmo Koei have announced that they are working on a new video game called Pokemon x Nobunaga’s Ambition which will combine the mechanics of the two series and deliver a mash-up of strategy and role playing.

It seems that the game will be turn based when it comes to the actual battles and that it will include a deep set of role-playing features for all the characters.

Pokemon x Nobunaga’s Ambition will see each major historical figure included linked to a Pokemon character, including such unlikely partners as: Nobunaga Oda and Zekrom, Mitsuhide Akechi and Articuni, Shingen takeda and Groudon and Kenshin Uesugi and Mewtwo.

Players will be able to create their own leaders to challenge the Pokemon and pairings and will initially be linked to Eevee, although it seems that the game will allow them to capture other Pokemon and use them instead.

It seems that the main development of the game is being done by The Pokemon Company and that the initial launch will take place on the Nintendo DS line of device at some point near the end of spring 2012.

It’s not clear whether Nintendo plans to also deliver the video game on Western markets, although the core concept makes it pretty hard to see which audience it might appeal to.

Tecmo Koei has been well known for creating franchises which use history as a base and then allow players to engage in battles with hundreds of characters and some over-the-top moves.

Pokemon fans have predicted that The Pokemon Company is preparing to announce that they are planning to launch a Grey version for the series, combining the best features of Black and White.

Another Pokemon-related announcement is expected by the middle of January 2012.
