This is happening with the new 1.05 firmware on the famous Plextor M3 SSDs

Unfortunately, Plextor’s last version of SSD firmware for the well-known Plextor M3 solid state disk is reportedly completely destroying all the data stored on the drive.

Plextor’s M3 is one of the best SSD drives out on the market right now, along with Corsair’s Performance Pro and OCZ’s Vertex4.

All the drives use Marvell’s 88SS9174 controller and provide very good results, no matter how the data is set up on the drive, unlike SandForce-based SSDs.

The word is that first users that got the update and applied it soon discovered that the data stored on their Plextor M3 drives got destroyed in the process.

Since then, Plextor has removed the new firmware from their official website, but if you manage to find the file on some other sites, beware that you must backup all your data from the Plextor M3 drive before applying the update.
