A developer that is working on the upcoming role playing game Dragon Age 2 from BioWare has stated that the game still aims to offer a lot of tactical choices for players while also allowing them to engage in quick and exciting fighting sequences.

Speaking to Video Game Daily Robyn Theberge, who is the development manager working on Dragon Age 2, has said, “You still have the full tactical menu on the console and the ability to switch between party members – put them on the enemy over here, and then you’re going to attack this person. They’ll follow all your commands – you can think like a general but you can fight like a spartan now too on the console.”

He says that there's a clear space between how the tactics work on the PC and on gaming consoles, allowing the player to choose which experience is best suited to his play style.

Theberge stated, “I think there’s just more variation now between PC and console on Dragon Age 2. I didn’t work on Origins so I can’t speak to their decision-making on that. But on Dragon Age 2 they just wanted to appeal to more people, add more combat in for those who wanted it, keep the tactics for people who loved the game and loved that about our games, but take it to another level as well.”

BioWare has not shown a lot of combat taken from Dragon Age 2 but a lot of fans who saw Origins as the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2 are worried that the sequel would be less tactical in nature in order to better attract the console gaming crowd.

The developers also talked about how BioWare is listening to what the fans are saying on the official forums, both in relation to Origins and reacting to the information shown about Dragon Age 2, aiming to create a gaming experience that appeals to as many gamers as possible but also retains depth.
