Famous video game developer Valve is set to appear at the upcoming Gamescom 2011 conference in Cologne, Germany, and, at least according to the official attendants list, may bring a playable version of its upcoming DotA 2.

Valve made a huge name for itself with massive hits like Half Life 1 or 2, the phenomenal Portal 1 and 2, as well as Team Fortress 2, which recently went completely free-to-play through the company's own Steam digital distribution service.

The only confirmed project Valve currently has in development right now is DotA 2, a sequel to the surprisingly popular Defense of the Ancients (DotA) mod for Blizzard's Warcraft III real time strategy title.

The existence of DotA 2 was confirmed last year, when Valve officially hired the team behind the original mod, right from under the noses of Blizzard.

Now, after just a few statements released over the year about the game, Valve is confirmed to be bringing it to the upcoming Gamescon 2011 conference, set to take place in the middle of August in Cologne, Germany.

According to the official attendants list on the website, via CVG, the company is going to display a "strategy game," and DotA 2 is the only title matching such a description, thanks to its blend of real-time strategy and role-playing gameplay.

Considering quite a lot of time has passed since the first announcement, perhaps DotA 2 might even be playable by convention visitors, but fans shouldn't get their hopes up just yet.

DotA garnered a cult status by delivering a fresh strategy experience, which earned a cult following because of its multiplayer charm.

"Dota 2 promises to take the unique blend of online RTS and RPG action that has made Dota popular with tens of millions of gamers and expand upon it in every way," Valve revealed when it first announced the new title.

Expect more details about DotA 2 and whether it will be playable at Gamescom, to appear before the start of the convention.
