Valve, one of the leading independent game developers in the world, has released some very interesting figures concerning its Steam digital distribution platform, alongside the details about a new feature called "Recommended For You", which has been added to the service late last week.

Steam, for those still unaware, is the most popular digital game distribution service in the world, and, according to Valve, has a portfolio of over 1,200 games that can be purchased by over 30 million subscribers around the world.

The company has also updated the service with quite a few interesting features, including the Steam Wallet, which allows you to load different amounts of money in your account and use them to purchase titles instead of a credit card, or the new "Recommended for You" feature.

"The "Recommended For You" services on Steam are designed to help gamers discover new games and DLC based upon their tastes and recent purchases, as well as games recommended by friends," revealed Valve.

The recommendations will appear both in their special page, as well as in the Steam Community News Blotter for each user.

This will allow players to buy even more new titles from the store's massive portfolio, and also help them uncover new titles that they might have overlooked when they originally appeared.

The new feature will be available both for the PC and the Mac platforms, to all of the 30 million accounts worldwide, according to Valve, which once again displays its impressive figures as opposed to other competitors, like Microsoft's Games for Windows Live, which also opened a dedicated online store for video games, or portals like Good Old Games.

Besides the massive sales held every week by the company on Steam, as well as the discounts offered for pre-orders, Valve will no doubt expand the profit it gets from the digital distribution service.

With all these new features implemented in the service, perhaps its time that brick and mortar game stores should be more afraid of Valve and Steam.
