Along with the arrival of Sony Ericsson's Xperia PLAY smartphone on the market today, the first games that were meant exclusively for the device have made it to the Android Market as well. The Xperia PLAY is the first smartphone in the world to have been PlayStation certified, and the first PlayStation games are now available for download via the Android Market.

Starting today, Xperia PLAY early adopters would be able to purchase a number of no less than five titles from the software portal, including Syphon Filter, MediEvil and Cool Boarders 2. These games are available at a price of $6.38 each.

However, the game offer for Xperia PLAY won't be limited to these titles, and more of them are set to become available in the not too far future.

Not to mention that there is also a series of games developed for the mobile phone, but which were not included in the Android Market, such as those coming from Gameloft.

The developer reportedly signed a deal with Amazon for the distribution of its Android games, after offering them to users through its own application store.

The Xperia PLAY was launched in the UK today, but it would be delayed at some of the wireless carriers in the country, including O2 and Vodafone.

The device is expected to arrive in the United States as well. Verizon Wireless confirmed plans to add it to its offering, without a release date as of now, and AT&T was rumored to plan a similar move as well.

In related news, we learn that a PlayStation emulator, PSX4Droid, which was in the Android Market for a while now, was pulled by Google today, due to “content violation.”

With the aforementioned titles restricted to the Xperia PLAY, it made sense for some to try and expand the availability of PlayStation games to other Android devices as well. And so did Google's decision to remove the app that enabled this, that's for sure.

However, PSX4Droid was not the only PlayStation emulator available for Android, as users can find another one, called FPSE, still available from the app portal.
