An exclusive character for Sony's black box

Comic books have been a never-ending source of ideas for a lot of Hollywood filmmakers, which have adapted the stories of a lot of heroes from them into blockbusters for the silver screen. Among them, DC Comics' Batman has been one of the most busy, charting an impressive amount of movies.

But the video game industry hasn't left the caped crusader alone either, and is now, through Eidos, preparing to release Batman: Arkham Asylum, an action game that will place the legendary hero in Gotham City's most infamous correctional facility, the asylum at Arkham.

Scheduled to appear in June for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, the game has now received a new tidbit of information from Eidos, regarding its challenge mode, which lets you play as different characters on specific maps. The announcement revealed that one of the most popular villains of the whole Batman series, the Joker, would be a playable character.

But don't get your hopes high yet, because only gamers who buy the PlayStation 3 version of the title will be able to play as the deranged criminal. People who will purchase the PS3 edition will receive a special code, which they can redeem on the PlayStation Network and download the new character.

Even though this seems like a fairly uneducated move from Eidos, we might get to see other exclusive characters appear for the other two platforms on which the game will be released. Either that or this is Eidos' way of apologizing to Sony for bringing  two exclusive DLC episodes for Tomb Raider: Underworld only to Microsoft's Xbox 360 console.

As soon as we will know more about the characters that will be playable in the Challenge mode, we will let you know.
